How to use this sheet

  • Start with the parts of the chart before a blank chart: missing numbers first, then whole rows.
  • Ask the child to find a number by its row and column before writing it: "Seventy-four is in the seventies row, under the fours."
  • Read the numbers past 100 aloud together: one hundred one, one hundred two. Many children have not heard them said.

Common mistakes

  • Writing 101 as 1001 or 10001, because they write "one hundred" and then "one". Show that the 1 replaces the last zero.
  • Thinking 110 comes right after 100. Count from 100 to 110 aloud together.
  • Moving the wrong way on the chart, so 10 more becomes 1 more. Down one row is ten more, across one square is one more.
