Read and spell words where two or three letters make one long vowel sound: rain and day, feet and seat, boat and snow, and light.

How to use this sheet
- Have the child circle or underline the vowel team before reading each word.
- Teach the saying "When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking" as a first rule, and note that it does not always work.
- Group the words by team, such as all the ai words, then all the ay words.
Common mistakes
- Reading each vowel separately, so "boat" becomes "bo-at". The two letters make one sound.
- Mixing up ai and ay in spelling. Ai is usually in the middle of a word, ay at the end.
- Mixing up ow as in snow and ow as in cow. Try both sounds and choose the one that makes a real word.
