Check a worked problem, decide whether its answer is right, find the mistake when it is not, and say in words what went wrong.

How to use this sheet
- Have the child estimate each answer first, so a wrong answer stands out.
- Work the problem again on scrap paper, then compare it with the one on the sheet, step by step.
- Ask the child to say the mistake out loud before writing it: "The ones made 13, and the 1 was not carried."
Common mistakes
- Marking an answer right because it looks neat or finished.
- Finding the wrong answer but not the step where it went wrong.
- Fixing the answer without saying what went wrong, so the same mistake comes back.
