How to use this sheet

  • Have the child label the radius and the diameter on each circle before using a formula.
  • Write the formula with the numbers in it on its own line before calculating.
  • Estimate with π as about 3 first, and check the answer is close.

Common mistakes

  • Using the diameter in the area formula. Area uses the radius: halve the diameter first.
  • Squaring the wrong thing, so π × r² is worked as (π × r)².
  • Mixing up circumference and area. Circumference is the distance around; area is the space inside.
