How to use this sheet

  • Have the child read decimals the long way: 0.47 is "forty-seven hundredths", not "point four seven".
  • Use the hundred grids or money: 0.47 is 47 cents of a dollar.
  • For comparing, write both decimals with the same number of places by adding zeros: 0.5 and 0.50.

Common mistakes

  • Thinking 0.25 is greater than 0.3 because 25 is greater than 3. Write 0.3 as 0.30 and compare.
  • Reading 0.07 and 0.7 as the same. The 7 is in a different place.
  • Writing 3/100 as 0.3. Hundredths need two places: 0.03.
