Find the part of a pattern that repeats (AB, ABB, AAB, ABC), say what comes next, fill in a missing part, name the pattern, and make a pattern of their own.

How to use this sheet
- Have the child say the pattern aloud, such as "circle, square, circle, square", before drawing what comes next.
- Ask the child to circle the part that repeats, the core, in each row.
- Make the same pattern with claps and stamps, or with blocks, then compare.
Common mistakes
- Continuing only the last shape, or copying the row without seeing the core. Circle the core first.
- Mixing up AAB and ABB patterns. Say the letter for each shape aloud.
- Thinking a pattern has to start at the start of the core. A pattern can start anywhere in it.
