How to use this sheet
- Act out prepositions with a toy and a box: on, under, next to, behind.
- Have the child underline the whole prepositional phrase, from the preposition to its noun.
- For conjunctions, have the child say what each one does: and adds, but shows a contrast, so shows a result.
Common mistakes
- Thinking every small word is a preposition, such as and or the.
- Using "but" where there is no contrast, as in "I like apples but I like pears".
- Starting a sentence with a conjunction such as because and not finishing the thought.
