How to use this sheet
- Have the child circle the two letters that make one sound in each word before reading it.
- Say the digraph sounds before the sheet: sh as in ship, ch as in chip, th as in thin.
- Have the child put a finger under the two letters together when sounding out the word.
Common mistakes
- Sounding the two letters separately, so "ship" is read as /s/ /h/ /i/ /p/. The two letters make one sound.
- Mixing up sh and ch. Say "shh" like asking for quiet, and "ch" like a sneeze.
- Writing ck at the start of a word. Words start with c or k; ck comes after a short vowel at the end.
