How to use this sheet
- Have the child think of each division as a missing factor: for 24 ÷ 6, ask "6 times what is 24?"
- Keep the matching times table visible for the first sheet, then hide it.
- Share small numbers of counters into equal groups for any fact that does not make sense.
Common mistakes
- Dividing the smaller number by the larger, as in reading 3 ÷ 12 for 12 ÷ 3. The number being shared comes first.
- Subtracting instead of dividing, so 12 ÷ 3 becomes 9. Read it as "12 shared into 3 groups."
- Thinking any number divided by 1 is 1. Sharing among 1 group leaves the whole number.
