How to use this sheet
- Say each picture name aloud, stretching the sound you are listening for: "ssssun" or "bu-sss".
- Have the child say the sound, not the letter name, before choosing a letter.
- Play an I spy game afterwards: "I spy something that starts with /m/."
Common mistakes
- Calling a picture by another name, so the sound does not match, such as "kitty" for cat. Agree on each name first.
- Hearing the letter name instead of the sound, so "elephant" is chosen for L. Elephant starts with the sound /e/.
- For ending sounds, listening to the first sound out of habit. Say the word and stop on the last sound.
