How to use this sheet
- Have a measuring jug and a kitchen scale on hand if you can, and read a real one first.
- Have the child find what each mark on the scale is worth before reading it.
- Ask whether each answer makes sense: a cup of water is not 10 L.
Common mistakes
- Assuming each mark is 1 when the scale counts by 2s, 5s or 10s.
- Reading the top of the scale as the amount, rather than the level of the liquid.
- Mixing up capacity and weight. Capacity is how much a container holds; weight is how heavy something is.
