How to use this sheet
- Act out a problem with paper strips: share 3 strips equally among 4 people.
- Read every fraction as a division: 3/4 is 3 ÷ 4.
- For word problems, ask what is being shared and among how many before writing the fraction.
Common mistakes
- Writing the fraction upside down, so 3 shared among 4 becomes 4/3. What is being shared goes on top.
- Thinking you cannot divide a smaller number by a larger one. Each person gets less than one whole.
- Giving an answer greater than 1 when each person gets less than one whole. Check the size.
