How to use this sheet
- Talk through each picture with a real example from the child’s life before marking an answer.
- Accept a different answer if the child gives a good reason, and talk about it. Needs and wants can depend on the situation.
- Link the sheet to a real choice, such as saving part of a gift of money.
Common mistakes
- Calling anything a need because they want it very much. A need is something we must have to live and be safe.
- Thinking a deposit takes money out of the bank. A deposit puts money in; a withdrawal takes it out.
- Thinking saving means never spending. Saving is keeping money now to spend on something later.
