How to use this sheet
- Read the passage aloud together first, then have the child read it alone before the questions.
- Read each question aloud and have the child find the paragraph that holds the answer, and point to it.
- Ask one question that is not on the sheet, such as "What do you think happens next?"
Common mistakes
- Answering from what they know instead of from the passage. Ask "Where does it say that?"
- Choosing an answer because it uses a word from the passage, even if it does not answer the question.
- Forgetting the order of events in a story. Have the child retell it: first, next, then, last.
