How to use this sheet

  • Have the child put the data in order from least to greatest first, for every question.
  • Write each measure with its label, so mean, median and mode are not mixed up.
  • Ask which measure best describes the data, and why, when there is an outlier.

Common mistakes

  • Finding the median without putting the data in order first.
  • For an even number of values, choosing one of the two middle values instead of the mean of both.
  • Mixing up the mean and the median.
  • Thinking the mode is the biggest value. It is the value that appears most often.
