How to use this sheet

  • Work on one times table at a time, and come back to the earlier ones mixed in.
  • Have the child say each fact aloud with its answer. Saying it builds memory faster than writing alone.
  • Mark the facts that were slow and put only those on a sticky note for the next few days.

Common mistakes

  • Adding instead of multiplying, so 4 × 3 becomes 7. Say "4 groups of 3" and draw them if needed.
  • Skip counting from the start for every fact. Teach the turned-around facts: if 3 × 8 is known, so is 8 × 3.
  • Mixing up the 6, 7 and 8 facts, such as 7 × 8 = 54. Build them from known facts: 7 × 8 is 7 × 4 doubled.
