How to use this sheet

  • Have the child check each shape for parallel sides, right angles and equal sides, and mark them on the drawing.
  • Use a tree diagram or a list: a square is a rectangle, a rhombus and a parallelogram.
  • For always, sometimes or never, have the child try to draw a shape that breaks the statement.

Common mistakes

  • Giving only one name to a shape that has several, such as calling a square only a square.
  • Thinking a trapezoid must look like a classic trapezoid. One pair of parallel sides is what matters.
  • Calling a rhombus a square because its sides are equal. A square also needs four right angles.
