Count forward and back along a number line, by ones and by skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, write the number that belongs at a point or in a gap, and add or subtract by jumping forward or back in ones or tens.

How to use this sheet
- Have the child put a finger on the start number and hop along the line, counting each jump aloud.
- Before adding or subtracting, ask which way the answer will move: to the right for adding, to the left for taking away.
- For lines that skip count, find what each mark is worth first by looking at two marks with numbers.
Common mistakes
- Counting the start number as the first jump, so 5 + 3 lands on 7. Count the jumps, not the marks.
- Going the wrong way to subtract. Write a small arrow at each end of the line: bigger numbers to the right.
- Assuming every mark is worth 1 when the line counts by 2s, 5s or 10s. Check two marks with numbers first.
