How to use this sheet
- Have the child place each number on a number line before ordering them.
- Write fractions as decimals, or decimals as fractions, so every number is in one form.
- For absolute value, ask "How far is it from zero?"
Common mistakes
- Ordering negatives as if they were positives, so −0.5 seems less than −0.75.
- Thinking absolute value just removes the minus sign in an expression, so |3 − 5| becomes 3 + 5. Work out the inside first.
- Comparing a fraction and a decimal digit by digit without converting them first.
