How to use this sheet
- Have pattern blocks, or the cut-out page, so the child can try shapes before drawing them.
- Ask the child to try another way to fill the same shape when they finish one.
- Talk about which blocks make others: two triangles make a rhombus, three make a trapezoid.
Common mistakes
- Leaving gaps or overlapping blocks. The blocks must fit with no gaps and no overlaps.
- Drawing blocks that do not match the real block sizes. Trace around real blocks if needed.
- Thinking there is only one right answer. Most shapes can be filled more than one way.
