How to use this sheet
- Have the child find 10% and 1% first: these build almost any percent.
- Ask for an estimate before working out a percent: 48% of 60 is about half of 60.
- For increase and decrease, have the child say what the original amount was before finding the change.
Common mistakes
- Writing 5% as 0.5. Percent means out of 100: 5% is 0.05.
- Finding a discount and forgetting to subtract it, so the sale price is the amount saved.
- Working out percent change using the new amount instead of the original. The change is divided by the original.
