How to use this sheet
- Write the seven numerals and their values at the top of the page: I, V, X, L, C, D and M.
- Split a number into its places, then write each place: 94 is 90 and 4, so XC and IV.
- Turn it around to check: read the Roman numeral back as a number.
Common mistakes
- Adding when a smaller numeral comes first. IX is 9, not 11.
- Writing four of one numeral, such as IIII or XXXX. Use IV and XL.
- Taking away from a numeral that is too big, such as IC for 99. It is XCIX.
