How to use this sheet
- For each number, have the child name the two tens or hundreds it is between before rounding.
- Use the number lines on the sheet: mark the number and see which end it is closer to.
- Underline the place you round to and circle the digit to its right. Only the circled digit decides.
Common mistakes
- Rounding 45 down to 40. A 5 rounds up: 45 is rounded to 50.
- Changing every digit after the rounding place to 9, or leaving them as they are. They all become zeros.
- Looking at the wrong digit, such as the ones digit when rounding to the nearest hundred. The digit just right of the rounding place decides.
- Forgetting that rounding up can change more than one digit, as when 296 rounds to 300.
