Find fractions that name the same amount, such as 1/2 and 4/8, with fraction bars and then by multiplying or dividing the top and bottom by the same number, and write fractions in simplest form.

How to use this sheet
- Start with fraction bars, so the child sees that 1/2 and 2/4 cover the same length.
- Have the child write the number they multiply or divide by on both the top and the bottom, as an arrow.
- For simplest form, ask "What is the largest number that divides both?"
Common mistakes
- Multiplying only the bottom number, so 1/2 becomes 1/4. Whatever you do to the bottom, do to the top.
- Adding the same number to top and bottom, so 1/2 becomes 2/3. That changes the size: only multiply or divide.
- Stopping before the fraction is fully simplified, as in 6/12 to 3/6. Check whether both can be divided again.
