How to use this sheet
- Have the child draw a time line and make jumps: to the next hour first, then the rest.
- Use a real clock to move the hands through each problem.
- Ask the child to check that the answer makes sense: a lunch break is not 5 hours.
Common mistakes
- Subtracting times like ordinary numbers, so 9:15 to 10:05 becomes 90 minutes. There are 60 minutes in an hour.
- Crossing noon and getting lost. Jump to 12:00 first.
- Mixing up "later" and "earlier", so the jump goes the wrong way.
