How to use this sheet
- Have the child trace and cut out a shape and try to cover a page with it, with no gaps.
- Look at the angles meeting at each point: together they make a full turn, 360 degrees.
- Find tessellations at home, such as floor tiles or brick walls.
Common mistakes
- Thinking only squares tessellate. Every triangle and every quadrilateral can tessellate.
- Calling a pattern with gaps or overlaps a tessellation.
- Thinking regular pentagons tessellate. Their angles do not add to 360 degrees at a point.
