Know how big units are compared with each other (1 km = 1,000 m, 1 lb = 16 oz, 1 hr = 60 min), fill in conversion tables, convert between larger and smaller units in one system, and solve problems with measurements.

How to use this sheet
- Have the child write the conversion fact at the top of each problem, such as 1 foot = 12 inches.
- Ask whether the number should get bigger or smaller: smaller units mean a bigger number.
- Use the conversion tables on the sheet as a reference for the first problems.
Common mistakes
- Dividing when they should multiply. Going to a smaller unit makes the number bigger.
- Using a metric rule, multiplying by 10, for customary units such as feet and inches.
- Treating time like decimals, so 1 hour 30 minutes becomes 1.30 hours. It is 1.5 hours.
