Writing from dictation for Kindergarten: a grown-up reads four words and two short sentences from the answer key, and the child says each one and writes the sounds they hear, where any spelling that shows the main sounds counts. With an answer key.

How to use this sheet
- Have the child tell you the idea aloud first, then draw it, then write it.
- Accept sound spelling: let the child write the sounds they hear, and praise the ideas.
- Read the writing back together, with the child pointing to each word.
Common mistakes
- Writing words without spaces between them. Put a finger after each word as a space.
- Starting each sentence with "and then". Offer other starters: first, next, after that.
- Stopping after one sentence. Ask a question to get one more idea, such as "What happened next?"
