How to use this sheet
- Have the child draw the rise and run on the graph as a small right triangle.
- Say slope as "rise over run" each time, and check the sign: up to the right is positive.
- Have the child find the slope from two different pairs of points and see that it is the same.
Common mistakes
- Putting run over rise, so a slope of 2 becomes 1/2.
- Subtracting the y values in one order and the x values in the other, which gives the wrong sign.
- Reading the wrong scale on the axes when the grid counts by 2s or 5s.
