How to use this sheet
- Read the word to the child first, use it in a sentence, then have the child read it.
- Work on three to five new words at a time, and mix in a few that the child already knows.
- After the sheet, write the week’s words on cards and play a quick game: read the card, keep the card.
Common mistakes
- Guessing a word from its first letter, so "went" becomes "want". Have the child look at every letter.
- Mixing up words that look alike, such as was and saw, or of and for. Work on those pairs side by side.
- Reading the word on the sheet but not in a book. Point the word out when you read together.
