Let’s walk through creating your first step-by-step guide from start to finish.

Planning your guide

Before you start, think about what you want to teach. Break it down into 5-10 discrete steps. Each step should cover one idea or action.

Ask yourself: - What’s the goal of this guide? - Who is the audience? - What do they need to know at each stage?

Writing great steps

Each step should have:

  • A clear, action-oriented title — Start with a verb when possible
  • A brief description — 1-3 sentences explaining what to do
  • An image or screenshot — If it helps clarify the instruction

Good step titles

  • “Click the Settings button”
  • “Enter your email address”
  • “Review and confirm your order”

Weak step titles

  • “Settings”
  • “Email”
  • “Confirmation”

Tips for success

  1. Keep steps short and focused — One concept per step
  2. Use images to show, not just tell — Screenshots work great
  3. End with a clear next action — What should they do after finishing?
  4. Test with a friend — Get feedback before publishing

Publishing your guide

Once you’ve added all your steps:

  1. Click Preview to see how it looks
  2. Make any final adjustments
  3. Click Publish to make it live
  4. Share the link with your audience!
